(Kiri and I chat about some of the ski races held that led up to the Tri-Base ski races and the kind of skis Lyka used to win gold the previous year. The conversation gets on to the possibility of having in conjunction with the ski races a Wookie snowboarding competition. For all their size, they’re very graceful boarding.)

Kiri: yes and this is the first time I’ve been able to compete that I haven’t been pregnant.

Russ: oh yeah that’s right, it is.

Kiri: uh-huh, yeah when we had the races here on the base, I had just had Alex and wasn’t feeling up for it and then we didn’t have races the following year and then I was pregnant with Leonedies.

Russ: you sure you weren't at the races before? Thought we had two races, one at the old Wookie mountain and one at the new Wookie mountain.

Kiri: I think you’re right yeah but I didn’t compete in any of them.

John: have you ever skied anywhere here on earth?

Kiri: on earth? No I haven’t.

John: on this planet?

Kiri: no I haven’t. That’s right because I did compete at the old Wookie compound because Mark and Tia were working down in the tent doing controls and they were total animals and what did Mark tell you to go and do when you stuck your head inside the tent?

Russ: something about go jump off a mountain.

Kiri: yeah, something like that. Uh-huh, compared to the other races, the ones last year on Sirius and the ones coming up this year, I mean those were very unprofessional.

Russ: oh very much so, they were just warming up for the big stuff.

Kiri: we knew that they had the competitions between Sirius and Centauri base but we thought that we weren’t good enough. But when Lyka last year came home with the gold……

Russ: yeah.

Kiri: uh-huh.

Russ: our girl Lyka.

Kiri: yeah, GS winner.

Russ: she’s going again.

Kiri: uh-huh, yeah and she’s hot, she is hot.

Russ: kicked butt on you all day huh?

Kiri: well if I get as good as she is then I’ll be happy.

Russ: well if I get as good as her then I’ll be skiing on my circuit down here.

Kiri: uh-huh, oh she would eat your pros down there for breakfast.

Russ: yeah well the technology's a little bit different too.

Kiri: she doesn’t use….

Russ: she doesn’t use the custom skis?

Kiri: no, she uses regular, normal skis.

Russ: she’s that good? 

Kiri: yeah.

Russ: damn.

Kiri: uh-huh, you see when you get that good, it doesn’t matter which set you're using. I mean she is that good.

Russ: how come they don’t have a Wookie snowboarding competition?

Kiri: because Centauri Base…..no Sirius Base doesn’t have Wookies.

Russ: Centauri Base does.

Kiri: yes Centauri Base does but Sirius Base doesn’t.

Russ: so have a special competition between Centauri Base and Sirius…I mean Hades Base.

Kiri: we have to put it before all three committees.

Russ: well since the committees have to meet for the races anyway…..

Kiri: that’s right.

Russ: and since you’re going to be…..

Kiri: actually the seat is on Hades Base.

Russ: is it?

Kiri: yes, the seat where they have the meetings and they happen three times a year and the next one isn't due until I believe May.

Russ: okay because what I’ll do is talk to my Wookie buddy….

Kiri: yeah.

Russ: he’s a killer snowboarder.

Kiri: yeah, we’ll have to bring it up before the committee members here that organize the races and everything.

Russ: but if we start proposing it now and getting it ready for......I mean start getting working on the proposal now…..

Kiri: well you know who one of the committee members is don’t you?

Russ: who, our Wookie buddy?

Kiri: no.

Russ: who? You.

Kiri: no.

Russ: Omal.

Kiri: no.

Russ: who?

Kiri: go on, take a guess.

John: he did just....just did five.

Kiri: no, not a Council member.

Russ: Lyka?

Kiri: Lyka can’t because she’s an officer and is competing this year.

Russ: Taal?

Kiri: no, Taal's not, all the committee members are not competing. In fact I can think of two members I know personally……

Russ: Mark of course and Tia. 

Kiri: very well that are committee members. 

Russ: I’ll bring it up with Mark when he gets back.

Kiri: and Tia. 

Russ: and Tia.

Kiri: uh-huh and then there’s Treeny, she’s actually a committee member.

Russ: I think it would be neat, I’d love to be up there. I’d just love to see the Wookie races. 

Kiri: yeah, in fact she’s a new member, Treeny is. And then there’s one of the technicians that works for Taal, he’s a committee member too. 

Russ: well now it’s coming down to the wire.
